My Favorite "Side Project" of the Year
So I had a lot of difficulty trying to put how I felt about Camp in words, when I remembered I'd already done it before, with a dedicated Childish Gambino fan
EmilyNarwhal: I LOVE LES. also bonfire. also heartbeat/all the shine/hold you down
EmilyNarwhal: also sunrise also power. THOUGHTS?
TechnicallyCanadian: As somebody who consumes a lot of hip hop, and as someone who knows DG from his Derrick Comedy/Mystery Team days, I don't think I like to think of it as music. Somebody compared it to the College Dropout the other day, and I remember getting angry, because Camp isn't really a record, and Childish Gambino will always be Donald Glover from standup and Troy from Community. Instead, I think of it as an absurdly entertaining, ridiculously insightful spoken word outlet for a dude who's so talented I'm not even jealous.
TechnicallyCanadian: or something like that
EmilyNarwhal: wait i wrote this before i listened to the whole of that power and holyshit the story. amaaazing. yeppp word outlet/donald glover appreciation LIFE
TechnicallyCanadian: Yes! I thought that was the greatest part of the album.
EmilyNarwhal: yes absolutely and it's NOT "music" so i totally get itttt
TechnicallyCanadian: And lines like "Dude you're not not racist cause The Wire's in your Netflix queue" or "Uncool, but lyrically I’m a stone cold killer, So it’s 400 blows to these Truffaut niggas" their almost too good for rap, you know?
TechnicallyCanadian: He's a poet, not rapper
TechnicallyCanadian: Or hell even saying that limits the scope this dude has. He's the perfect multimedia man for a multimedia generation
EmilyNarwhal: also TERRY GROSS I'm the talk of the nation
EmilyNarwhal: exactly the point i was about to make... he's mastering the blending of everrrrrything he wants
TechnicallyCanadian: I wouldn't recommend this album to a hip hop head, I'd recommend this to my mom.
TechnicallyCanadian: In short, this is the exact opposite of the Drake album.
EmilyNarwhal: [shhshh i really like headlines.]
EmilyNarwhal: but i'll be the first to say it's shit compared to CAMP...
EmilyNarwhal: like not even same ballpark. don't worry i haven't lost my mindddd
TechnicallyCanadian: #oof My hatred of drizzy drake runs deep. But I'll give you a pass for appreciating the hell out of Camp instead of Marcus "Mac" Miller's new album.
EmilyNarwhal: yeahBOI and when i say i really like it i mean... for driving. not for like APPRECIATING which you can actually do with camp.
Also, I learned that it was DC Pierson (of Mystery Team/Derrick Comedy fame) who wrote the end of That Power, not Donald Glover, and I'm still not sure how I feel about that.

a bit of realism for tonight
I won’t feel better in the morning and I WILL NEVER FINISH ALL THE THINGS I NEED TO DO.
Living is like tearing through a museum. Not until later do you really start...

Dot Com: “Grizz is guarding the other door—”
Grizz: “—And reading!—”
Dot Com: “Also, we took Tracy’s cell phone, his wallet,”
Tracy: “And my mood ring! And I don’t know how I feel about that.”

too tired to concentrate, so I’m going to bed instead of writing a paper on sleep deprivation.
